Working Out at Home

Since August 2015 I have tried working out 4-7 days a week, most of this is running. The biggest problem with running outside, is that one of my most consistent running partners can only handle so much cold (this was a sunny fall day, so we needed sister’s glasses):

My amazing husband did buy a cover for the stroller, so on those days that run 10-35 degrees outside we look more like this (I promise there is a child in that stroller):

I want to share with you what I do on the days the weather or my schedule does not cooperate to go outside.

Fitness Blender

Last year I discovered Fitness Blender on youtube. They have a variety of amazing exercises. They have everything from strength to cardio to HIIT to yoga and pilates. They have a variety of lengths, everything from 10 minutes to over an hour. They also have videos that require no equipment to some that require a bench and dumbbells. I have never had trouble finding a workout on here to meet my needs. I also love the format of their videos, they are very professional.

Here is the workout I did this morning:

Home Gym Setup:

We have slowly been acquiring exercise equipment for a home gym. Our rule is we have to prove we will use it before we buy it (no body wants a treadmill around that is only used to hang clothes on). We do this buy using what we have consistently first, or by trying things out at a gym consistently. Once we are SURE we will use something then we research prices and products. We currently have 2 sets of adjustable weights, mine are smaller than my husbands.

We also have a bench for working out, which we found on craigslist. For stretching, push-ups, and planks we have a yoga mat and foam roller for additional muscle stretching. The room where we have our home gym also has 2 steps and 1 large step which we use for lateral jumps. In addition we have a cheap rowing machine (I am saving up for a nice one).

This is not a lot of equipment, but it is enough. Between jumps and strength training it aids in our health improvement and helps keep us active on those days we cannot go for a run.

Staying fit is about making wise decisions for your health, it is not about spending a ton of money on a gym membership or things you do not need. It starts small, one step at a time.


My Health Journey

Being healthy is more than just exercising and more than just eating healthy food and more than just a one month diet. Healthy living is choosing to make healthy active choices every day and every moment. Healthy living shouldn’t be a prison you put yourself  in to get results, it should be something you enjoy.

In 1 Corinthians, Chapter 6, Paul addresses immorality and the purpose of the body. In verses 19-20 he says:

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I believe this means not only to keep our bodies pure and holy by protecting them from immorality, but also to care for our bodies.  Continue reading
